Monday Morning Motivation – Replace

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "replace."

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Replace

My smart phone has an unsightly scratch on the screen protector that was installed on the phone immediately after taking it out of the box.

Through the power of Google, I figured out that it shouldn’t take any more than 10-15 minutes to replace the protector with a new one (being the over-prepared person I am, I bought an extra at the time of the original purchase of the phone).

And yet it’ll likely be another few weeks before I MAKE the time to replace the screen. Unfortunately, I’m even worse with my bad habits—I know what to do to replace them, and yet I continue on with the status quo day after day.

Newton understood this fully and explained it via his first law:

  • A body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it, and a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force.

While Newton was talking physics, I’d argue that his law is equally applicable to behaviors. We continue down our current path until we replace our current behaviors with new behaviors.

I’m not telling you—or myself—anything new here. And yet I’m reticent to replace current habits with new habits. Change is hard. However, I know from experience that, if I can start small with one small behavioral change, things get easier. AND, eventually, I can transform myself to the desired state.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • What behavior would you like to replace?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
