Monday Morning Motivation – Feedback

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "feedback".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Feedback

Why the Right Feedback Matters

Feedback shapes everything—our work, our relationships, our growth.
But while good feedback can guide and elevate us, poor feedback can confuse, discourage, or even damage progress.

That’s why it’s not enough to simply give feedback.
We must learn to give it well.

What Constructive Feedback Looks Like

The most effective feedback is clear, actionable, and supportive. It helps someone understand what worked, what didn’t, and how to grow. Strong feedback typically has these qualities:

  • Specific — It addresses exactly what happened.

  • Measurable — It’s rooted in objective observations, not personal opinion.

  • Achievement-Focused — It highlights what can be improved and what’s already working.

  • Relevant — It sticks to the task or behavior, not the person.

  • Timely — It’s given close to the moment, when it’s most helpful.

In short, constructive feedback builds clarity and confidence.

What Unhelpful Feedback Looks Like

Unfortunately, feedback often misses the mark.
It becomes vague, emotional, delayed, or overly negative.

This kind of feedback:

  • Uses general statements

  • Focuses on opinions, not facts

  • Highlights only the negatives

  • Drifts into personal territory

  • Arrives far too late

Instead of guiding growth, it creates frustration and confusion.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • Are you providing CONSTRUCTIVE feedback to those in your life?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.

Have a great week!
Curt
