Are you underestimating the degree to which you are adaptable?

Monday Morning Motivation – Adaptable

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "adaptable."

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Adaptable

It is often the case that those expressions/sayings that we hear over and over again harbor a ton of truth. One that almost everyone will recognize is:

  • Everyone likes change. No one likes TO change.

Being adaptable is at the heart of this topic. Whether we like it or not, change WILL come our way. While we would like to have a nice, easy, predictable life, it is simply NOT reality to expect that this will happen. Our situation and circumstances will change.

And we will either adapt or be left to struggle as the world around us changes. We all KNOW this. And we all struggle with change.

Adaptability requires several key things:

  • Accepting that the environment/situation we are in has changed.
  • Accepting that we can no longer continue on with our same actions.
  • Accepting that we will have to learn new skills.
  • Accepting that this will be uncomfortable.
  • Accepting that, even as we change, the future is not guaranteed.
  • Realizing that, IN SPITE of ALL of these factors, we must either adapt—or we will be left behind.

And yet, it is SO hard to move on from our current reality. That is because we are wired to look for safety and stability. Change involves risk and risk involves danger. Better to stay “safe” than to risk adapting.

But the reality is that ONLY those who are adaptable will be able to survive if and when the environment changes. And we are VERY good at being adaptable when the situation requires it. We simply do NOT give ourselves enough credit for our ability to do incredible things that often seem beyond our capabilities!

So, what’s the message? Simple. Quit worrying about the change that you must make and accept that you have the perseverance and talent to handle almost anything that life throws at you.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you underestimating the degree to which you are adaptable?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!
