Monday Morning Motivation – Anchor

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "anchor".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Anchor

Most of us probably think of the heavy object that holds a ship in place when we think of anchor. Today I am going to challenge you to think of what holds you in place and where that place is…

Anchors serve to keep things in place. To keep things from moving. To keep things stable. Sometimes that is good. Sometimes not so much.

Those anchors that keep us attached to the critical things in our life are invaluable. Having traditions in place that keep you connected to your faith as well as your friends and family, are anchors that most of us would not want to change for anything. Those anchors keep us connected to things that are deeply personal and deeply important to us.

Conversely, many of us have habits that keep us anchored to undesirable states. Many of us face challenges with habits that keep us from attaining the health and fitness levels to which we aspire. Many of us succumb to temptations that keep us from reaching those financial goals that are important to us. Those habits and temptations that anchor us to undesirable states are rarely positive and we would be well served to “cast off” these anchors.

Many people do not realize that they are anchored. Even fewer of these people recognize what it is that is anchoring them. We can learn so much by taking the time to step back and examine what we are anchored to and what is keeping us anchored to these things. Once we have recognized these two things, we can make conscious decisions as to whether we want to remain anchored or if we are ready to “cast off”.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you anchored to and by the right things?

Have a great week!

Curt
