Monday Morning Motivation – Become
(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Those of you that know me well know that I would never be confused as a student of literature. Non-fiction related to personal development and leadership maybe. But the classics, not on your life.
And yet today I have to quote Henry David Thoreau:
- What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals
When I first heard this quote it stopped me cold. For me, I had always thought goals were about goals. I had never even considered the impact that PURSUING the goals was having on me as an individual.
As soon as I looked at things through this lens, I quickly realized that it was not the goals that really mattered. In fact, I cannot even tell you what my goals were from two years ago, much less 5, 10, 15 or 20 years ago.
But I can tell you about the various experiences that changed me as a person. And as I think back associated with many of those experiences were some sort of goals. The goals are all gone. But the experiences remain. And so do the changes that those experiences affected on me.
My challenge for you today is:
- Are you thinking about who you are becoming as you go through the daily routine of pursuing your goals?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.
