How can you improve your mental flexibility?

Monday Morning Motivation – Flexibility

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss flexibility.

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Flexibility

I often think of “physical range of motion” when I think of the term flexibility. However, it’s just as important to think about your “mental range of motion” when you think of flexibility.

As with physical flexibility, mental flexibility only comes with concerted effort and a bit of pain. We (me at the top of the list) are all prone to being locked into our own way of thinking and looking at things. As they say, we are creatures of habit. However, the world is far from a static place, and—in my opinion—we are normally better off remaining flexible in our ways of thinking.

Taking the time to explore new thoughts, concepts, and ideas is time well spent. Efforts in this area will provide us new perspectives that broaden our horizons.

I’m NOT suggesting that you change or go against your core values. Rather, I’m suggesting that, as you look at situations, you may find that new thoughts, perspectives, and actions are totally aligned with your values AND that doing this fosters better relationships in the process. And that is a very good thing in my opinion.

Improved flexibility—physical and mental—is a good thing.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • How can you improve your mental flexibility?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
