Monday Morning Motivation – Preparation
(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
For the next couple of months, I am going to draw motivation for my Monday Morning Motivation from Steven Pressfield’sThe War of Art.You can find a summary of this awesome book here. This book is one of my all-time favorites as it takes on the topic of “resistance,” which you might think of as that strange force that makes it difficult to accomplish things in life. Pressfield does an awesome job of describing what resistance is, discussing how to overcome it, and framing it in the context of a larger power.
Some people sure seem to get lucky all of the time. Uh no. The “overnight” sensations are normally the product of decades of hard work and dedication to their craft. They have undergone the ups and downs of their trade. They have failed many, many times. More than anything else they have come to understand the importance of preparation.
There is an old saying that goes something to the effect of: “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.” And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with living your life as a free spirit, it will NOT get you to a specific goal/target – unless of course living your life as a free spirit IS your goal, in which case, go for it!
For those that have specific hopes and aspirations, it is absolutely critical that we prepare for the journey we are about to undertake. IMPORTANT POINT: The preparation MUST be focused on the journey (process) and not the destination (outcome). We can – and will – control the journey by taking control of our thoughts and actions. The destination (outcome) may NOT work out as intended; but, without preparation, it is highly unlikely that we will get “lucky” and end up where we hope to be.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What sort of preparation in you doing in your life in regards to faith, family, friend, fitness, and finances?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.
(Note: Each week I publish “Monday Morning Motivation” in the hopes that one person will find a bit of inspiration and that inspiration will have a positive impact on their life. My motivation comes from experiences, reading, sermons, and discussions.) Photo credit: rawpixel.com on unsplash.com
