Monday Morning Motivation – Sustain
Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "sustain."
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Sustain
Reaching the Goal Is One Thing. Sustaining It Is Another.
Many people achieve their goals. Far fewer sustain them.
Why?
Because the pursuit of a goal is exciting. It’s fueled by possibility, motivation, and the thrill of something new. Whether it’s starting a fitness journey, launching a business, improving a relationship, or developing a new habit, the early stages are often energized by enthusiasm and momentum.
But eventually, the novelty fades.
When the excitement wears off, the real challenge begins. What once felt inspiring can start to feel routine. And when progress slows or obstacles appear, many people move on to the next shiny opportunity. Think about kids with new toys. Or, if we're being honest, sometimes even adults in relationships. Ouch.
Sustaining success requires something deeper than motivation—it requires commitment.
That level of commitment often develops through maturity, and maturity usually comes from experience. Unfortunately, experience is frequently earned through failure. Many of us learn the importance of consistency only after we've abandoned a goal, lost momentum, or watched hard-earned progress slip away.
The good news? We don't always have to learn every lesson the hard way.
One of the smartest shortcuts to sustained success is learning from people who have already traveled the road ahead of us. Seek out mentors who have faced setbacks, struggled with consistency, experienced failure, and still found a way to persevere. Their wisdom can help us navigate challenges before they become costly mistakes.
Will mentorship eliminate failure altogether? Probably not.
But it can significantly reduce the likelihood of failure and lessen its impact when it does occur. And that's a tremendous advantage.
Success is admirable. Sustained success is transformational.
If you want to maintain growth personally, professionally, or spiritually, don't just focus on achieving the goal. Focus on becoming the kind of person who can sustain it. And whenever possible, learn from those who have already proven that it can be done.
The path may not become easier, but it will become much clearer.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Who can help you sustain the gains you have made?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
