Money and Spirituality

Money Talks

Let's start with an admission: money might be the most spiritual thing most of us never think to call spiritual.

Picture life without it. No currency, just barter — you're trading chickens for shoes and hoping the shoemaker happens to want chicken. That world couldn't have built the culture, commerce, or comfort we take for granted today. Whatever complaints we have about money, we're better off having invented it than not.

So what's it actually for?

Strip away all the complexity and money really only does five things:

  • You can give it away.
  • You can fund your life.
  • You can pay down debt.
  • You can pay taxes.
  • You can save or invest it.

Notice something? Every single one of those is a decision about what matters to you. You don't spend on what you value — you spend, and that's what reveals what you value. Money doesn't just sit there. It talks. Loudly. Whether you meant it to or not.

Which leads to an uncomfortable question: What is your spending saying about you?

Not always a fun thing to sit with. But that discomfort is the whole point — it's where you find out what you actually believe about the purpose of your own life, whether or not you've ever said it out loud.

Here's the deeper claim: none of us conjured our earning power out of nowhere. The skills, the opportunities, the timing that let us earn what we earn — that's a gift, not just a paycheck. Which makes every dollar we steward, at some level, borrowed.

So the real question isn't "how much do I have." It's "what am I doing with what I've been given?" Are you using it to make someone else's life better? Are you leaving something behind that outlasts you?

None of us walk out of here alive. But we get to choose whether we leave a legacy — or just a bank statement.

Would You Like More Support?

  • Do you have a well-defined Investment Policy Strategy that is used to drive your investments in support of a comprehensive financial plan?

  • If not, would you like to partner with someone who is used to helping people get through these struggles and (then, with confidence) implement portfolio strategies in a systematic manner while focusing on your desired outcomes?

If so, feel free to send us an (opens in new tab)email(opens in new tab) or give us a call. We’d love to have the opportunity to help you find a bit more peace of mind when it comes to investing.
