Monday Morning Motivation – Advice

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "advice".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Advice

Perhaps the most dangerous lie that we buy into—especially men—is the myth of the “self-made man.” As a country, we like to wax nostalgic about our cultural icons and their rugged individual spirit that allowed them to conquer all sorts of obstacles. Poppycock.

While I do buy into the importance of determination, I reject the concept of being “self-made.” We are made by the experiences that we have. And perhaps the fastest and most effective way to increase our experiences is to accept the advice of others that have been through similar trials. To reject their experiences is to believe that we are unique. And, while we are each unique in many ways, we share too many common traits and characteristics to ignore the experiences of others.

Learning to accept advice is one of the most important skills that an individual can come to possess. When we learn this skill AND combine it with discernment, our path to learning is shortened exponentially. I am NOT saying to take advice from everyone (in fact MY advice is NOT to do that!); however, I am saying that there are many, many individuals in our lives who can share priceless advice if we are only willing to ask.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • Are you willing to accept the advice of others?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.

Have a great week!
Curt
