Taming the Fire Within

I’m not proud to admit this, but I grew up with quite a temper. Anger and I were close companions—and not in a good way. Controlling my emotions was not exactly my strong suit.

Now here’s the tricky part: bottling up emotions isn’t healthy either. But letting them explode as anger? That’s just as harmful.

The real key—to both personal health and the health of our relationships—is self-regulation.

Self-regulation doesn’t mean ignoring or suppressing your feelings. It’s not about pretending everything is fine when it’s not. Instead, it’s about having the maturity to recognize your emotions, manage them, and release them in ways that don’t cause harm to yourself or others.

For far too long, I failed at this. I let my emotions run unchecked, and honestly, I acted like a child. Learning containment—real, healthy containment—was a turning point for me.

So, if you’ve ever struggled with letting emotions spill out in damaging ways, here’s something to think about:

Containment is not suppression. It’s self-regulation.
