Monday Morning Motivation – Pain

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "pain".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Pain

There will be pain in life. Point. Done. Finished. The reality is that if you are LIVING, you are going to have a variety of experiences. Many— hopefully most— will be pleasant and bring you great joy. However, there are going to be times when things are not pleasant, and pain emerges. That is a good thing.

Without pain, we would not have a reference point against which to gauge pleasure. If all we ever had were “perfect” experiences, over time those would feel “normal,” and the pleasure would fade. Times of pain allow us to remember how blessed we are in many areas of life and to truly appreciate these blessings.

None of the above diminishes the discomfort of pain. It is NOT fun to experience. However, framing pain in the context of our broader lives and broader set of experiences often mitigates its severity. You can see this so, so strongly in people of great faith as they face terminal illness. Often times they have an amazing sense of peace as the pain they are experiencing is “directly adjacent” to what they feel their faith has in store for them in the near future.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • Are you using pain in your life to increase your awareness of the blessings that you have?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.

Have a great week!
Curt
