Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "service."

Service Above Self
About five years ago, I was introduced to Rotary by a remarkable individual named Keith Druek. Keith is from New York, a former merchant marine, and the owner of his own construction company. At first glance, his boldness and directness can be a little intimidating. But spend even a short amount of time with him, and something else becomes immediately clear—Keith has a true servant’s heart. He is constantly looking for ways to help others, often without any expectation of recognition.
That spirit perfectly reflects Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self.”
Rotary lives this motto through a simple but powerful framework known as the Four-Way Test, which asks us to pause and reflect before we act:

Is it the truth?
-
Is it fair to all concerned?
-
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
-
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Through my involvement with this incredible organization, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of what genuine service really means. More importantly, it’s helped me become more intentional about how I show up for others—in my work, my relationships, and my community.
That brings us to this week’s question:
