Monday Morning Motivation – Sharpen
Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "Sharpen."
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Sharpen
Sharpen the Edge: Are You Getting Better, or Just Getting By?
“She’s a sharp cookie.”
“He’s a sharp-dressed man.”
“She’s really sharp.”
We use the word sharp to describe people who stand out—people who are clear, capable, quick, and effective. It’s a compliment. It’s also a hint.
Why?
Because behind anything sharp is the act of sharpening—a deliberate effort to improve, refine, and elevate.
That’s why this word resonates so deeply with me. I’m wired to learn, grow, and push forward—and sharpening is what that journey looks like in action.
So, what does it actually mean to “sharpen”?
We sharpen all the time—even if we don’t always call it that. Think about it:
-
Sharpening a knife so it cuts cleaner
-
Sharpening your skills so you perform better
-
Sharpening a presentation or idea so it lands with more clarity
Across every example, three things are always true:
-
There’s a clear target — something specific to improve
-
There’s a process — often time-tested, intentional, and sometimes uncomfortable
-
There’s an outcome — the result is always more effective than where you started
So here’s the insight:
Specific. Process. Effective.
Apply that to your personal, professional, and spiritual life, and you’re not just going through the motions—you’re leveling up.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Are you sharpening your personal, professional, and spiritual dimensions?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
Curt
