Monday Morning Motivation – Clarification

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "Clarification".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Clarification

There is an old expression about what happens when you “assume.” Namely that it makes an “aXX” out of “u” and “me”!

And yet while everyone can relate to the above, far too many people are hesitant to admit that they do not understand and to ask for clarification. To me, this topic of clarification deals with one of two issues:

  • We are afraid to ask for clarification because we think it will make us seem “stupid,” as we should know the topic at hand (fear).
  • We are so full of ourselves in thinking that we know everything that we find clarification unnecessary (pride).

Why not ask for clarification?

Basically, we either think we are too smart or too dumb, and, in either case, we hesitate to ask for clarification. The irony is that rarely—if ever—is asking for clarification seen by others as a negative.

Clarification helps us face both our fears and our pride

That’s because when we ask others for clarification, what we are really doing is asking for their help and input. When we do so, it builds connections. And that is a very good thing, as those connections help us to face both our fears and our pride.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • Why are you hesitating to ask for clarification?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.

Have a great week!
Curt
