Monday Morning Motivation – Perspective

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "Perspective".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Perspective

I am a perfectionist. As such, it should come as no surprise that I struggle with wanting things to go according to my plan on my timeline. More than once, someone has looked at me and asked, “How’s that working out for you?” Yeah, not so well!

Looking at things from a different perspective

Over time, I have come to realize that one of the best ways to overcome my need for perfection is to step back and look at things from a different perspective. This approach has been the most effective for me when I have faced the most challenging situations in my personal life. Rather than continue to bemoan what is NOT going right, I have come to look at these trials as an opportunity to grow spiritually.

Why taking a broader perspective can be so effective

Trials are no fun and are often combined with intense feelings of heartache. That’s why taking a broader perspective can be so effective:

  • Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. – James 1:2-4

Man, does that sting! Going through tough times has ALWAYS helped me to grow as an individual. I KNOW that tough times are what help me build character. But, at the toughest moment, the tough times are not enjoyable. That’s why perspective is so important.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • Are you looking at things from a broader perspective?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.

Have a great week!
Curt
