Monday Morning Motivation – Structure

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "structure".

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Structure

I am a perfectionist by nature. Combine that with an engineering education, and it should come as no surprise that I like structure in my life! And, I will be the first to admit it, sometimes I can (and do) take that too far.

Structure is critical to stability in all of the things we do—personally, professionally and spiritually—as well as physically and mentally. The challenge is not a lack of understanding or acceptance; most people readily understand and accept this concept. The challenge is in putting the structure in place.

When we establish a structure, it constrains our options, and, as “independent thinkers,” we can be led to believe that these constraints are bad. Quite to the contrary, establishing constraints or boundaries via structure in our lives is incredibly helpful. Furthermore, it actually frees us up to think MORE independently by getting rid of the clutter in our mind that comes from unstructured pursuits.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • What sort of structure have you put in place in your life?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.

Have a great week!
Curt
