Monday Morning Motivation – Stretching

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "stretching."

Stretching


I have always envied gymnasts. You see, my level of flexibility has got to be around a “5” on the 1-to-10 flexibility scale. The good news is that the “5” on flexibility is up from a “2” a decade ago. That’s because for the vast majority of the days over the past decade, I have started or ended the day with a stretching routine. While I’ll never be as flexible as my youngest daughter, I can now at least touch my toes!

This change did NOT happen overnight. And it DID require stretching. While my focus above was on physical flexibility, the same concepts apply to mental flexibility. I pride myself on my mental flexibility. Taking the time to stretch the boundaries of my intellect by reading and listening to material from those who harbor views that I am not familiar with brings me great joy.

While I do not always agree with some of the authors I read, learning of alternate perspectives is huge in understanding how others view and experience the world.

There are a ton of very interesting topics at the forefront of society currently. I would encourage everyone to make the time to stretch their minds and see what the additional flexibility might reveal.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you stretching both physically and mentally in your life?
