Monday Morning Motivation – Responsive

(Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially)

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement — along with a good cup of coffee! — to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Responsive

Some of you may be familiar with the fact that many web pages are now “responsive”.  By this, it means that they will appear differently depending on whether they are viewed on your computer, tablet, or iPhone.  The internal coding of the web site has been tailored to recognize the situation and respond in the manner that is most helpful/useful to those using the website.

As people, we tend to be one dimensional and NOT responsive to the variation in needs to those in our lives.

This one may hurt; but, in my opinion that is because we put our comfort and needs in front of the comfort and needs of others.  It is easier and less painful to remain as we are versus becoming responsive to the needs of our friends and family.  It can be even more damaging when we are NOT responsive to our spouse.

Unfortunately, this is a very destructive pattern that often has disastrous results.  As we continue to be un-responsive, our spouse begins to wonder if we care. That leads to either escalation or withdrawal – neither of which is pretty!

But it does NOT have to be this way.  Just like the web designer can decide to change the web pages code to be more responsive, we also hold the ability to change our internal codes and become more responsive to our partners.  It’s NOT easy, it WILL sometimes result in things that are not pretty (like the messed up web pages we sometimes see), but it is very worth it to make the change and render a much more pleasant, easier to live with version of ourselves to our partners.

That brings me to this week’s question:

  • Are you focusing on becoming more responsive to those around you or are you content to remain one dimensional?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning and I wish you all the best for the week.

Curt

(Note:  Each week I publish “Monday Morning Motivation” in the hopes that one person will find a bit of inspiration and that inspiration will have a positive impact on their life.  My motivation comes from experiences, reading, sermons, and discussions.  For the next several months I’m going to be drawing from Zig Ziglar’s book “Over the Top”.  It’s a great source of inspiration and wisdom and I would be remiss if I didn’t give him credit up front for the motivation)
