Monday Morning Motivation – Disciplined

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "disciplined."

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter along to others who you think would benefit from the content.

Disciplined

This week I’m going to do the “broken record” thing. Too often, we chase the latest and greatest looking for the “magic pill.” Normally, we already have the pill; we just don’t like the taste of the medicine.

Here are two key concepts which I have highlighted previously, which I think about almost daily, and which I will continue to emphasize personally AND share with others:

  • We must all deal with one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. – Jim Rohn
  • I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. – Bruce Lee

Both Rohn and Lee “get it.” It’s not about chasing something new and novel. Almost all of us KNOW what we need to do. However, very few of us are willing to remain disciplined and put in the work.

Critics will counter with a “That’s great, but you don’t understand the challenges I have to face.” Poppy cock. I am NOT naïve enough to think that anyone’s journey is going to be a “straight up” path with no setbacks. We ALL face the setbacks. However, it’s BECAUSE of the setbacks that we need to constantly keep Rohn’s and Lee’s guidance at the forefront of our minds.

We will face challenges. We will fail. It will hurt. And we will decide what to do with that pain. And if we choose to remain disciplined, we will—at the very least—have remained true to who we are, and, in all likelihood, we will have accomplished more than we ever believed we could. And that’s a story that most can and will be proud to tell others when they get to their final days.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you disciplined as an individual?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
