Monday Morning Motivation – Information

By: Curt Stowers

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss information.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Information

One of my earliest memories is sitting on the floor and thumbing through the encyclopedias. My mom had bought the sales pitch and acquired a set for our home. While it may not have seemed to be a great investment at the time, it turned out to be one of the best investments I’ve ever seen, as I spent countless hours thumbing through the volumes and exploring/learning about new things.

Without access to the relevant information about a situation, we are unable to perform up to our abilities. Information is the fuel that allows us to thrive.

Unfortunately, over time, “pure” fuel (information) has become more and more difficult to obtain. Instead, we now have information that comes to us through a set of filters that introduces significant bias.

We need to see the facts and data
AND avoid the bias,
as we all have enough biases
already baked into our personal systems.

That’s NOT a good thing—we need to see the facts and data AND avoid the bias, as we all have enough biases already baked into our personal systems.

Filtering the information that we allow into our brain is critical, and it seems that some people have forgotten that over the past several years.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Where are you getting your information?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
