Monday Morning Motivation – Confidence

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Confidence

Recently I started to think about the SIMILARITIES between confidence and humility. On the surface, the two seem light years apart. But as I thought about them for a while, it occurred to me they really are linked together.

(Where I believe this line of thinking could “come off the tracks” is if one is viewing SURFACE level confidence and SURFACE level humility. I do believe those two surface character traits are a world apart.)

However, looking deeper, whenever I run across someone who is truly confident, what always strikes me is how in touch they are with the complexities of the situation they are facing. They understand all of the nuances and possibilities. They understand the small changes in variables that, to most of us, look insignificant but can greatly influence the outcome. Because of this incredible level of awareness, those with what I would call deep confidence display a sense of humility that is amazing.

As they understand how things work in their area of genius, they also understand how fragile things are, and how their genius can disappear in an instant due to factors that are beyond their control. Ironically, as they embrace the humility of failure, they are able to see ways through and around these failure modes. That leads to more success, which in turn leads to more confidence. It also helps them to better understand the system and, in the process, realize that they are not in control of everything. Working alongside people who embody both confidence and humility is an incredibly enjoyable experience.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you able to remain both confident and humble?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
