Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "self-control."
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
I love ice cream and chocolate syrup! So much so that if it’s in the house, it’s going to disappear. Very quickly. It is clear that I struggle with a self-control issue on this front.
Now I know without a doubt that consuming large chocolate “Concrete’s” (think DQ blizzard but better) with peanut butter cups and hot fudge is NOT conducive to my goal of dropping weight, but man are they tasty! The reality is that, when it comes to self-control, I struggle with a long-term/short-term tradeoff. Long term, I really want to get in better physical shape. Short term, I want the satiation that chocolate provides.
The best solution that I have found is to simply keep items that are temptations for me 100% away from me/make them unavailable. Unfortunately, any solution that is less severe normally results in me giving in to the call of the temptation. It’s not a perfect solution, but it is one that works pretty darn well when implemented.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- What can you do to help yourself and others who struggle with self-control?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
