Malcom X took a stand.

Monday Morning Motivation – Stand

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "stand."

Hopefully, the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Stand

It’s always interesting to look into the origin of the things we hear regularly:

  • Those who stand for nothing will fall for anything. – Alexander Hamilton
  • A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. – Malcolm X

As I researched this concept, the conclusion I came to is that this sentiment/idea has been around for a long time, and it’s unclear as to who “owns” it. However, whether you subscribe to it coming from Malcolm X or Alexander Hamilton, in my opinion, it is a concept that holds a ton of truth.

There are a number of issues in the world these days that are extremely important—so important that I believe each one of us needs to take a stand on them. Now mind you, that does NOT mean that we dismiss, belittle, condemn or treat badly those who differ in their opinion from ours.

However, taking a stand on issues is something that we must do in those instances where we see that there are fundamental truths at stake. Towards that end, I would put a stake in the ground as follows:

  • There is an absolute truth.

Those who argue the “truth” that there is NO absolute truth are EXACTLY contradicting themselves! It is NOT all relative. Some things are fundamentally true. My point is NOT to argue for a specific truth. Instead, it is my intention to argue that there is a Truth. In my opinion, the facts back this assertion up—and point to some logical conclusions. If you would like to dig more into this topic, I STRONGLY recommend reading I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist by Norman Geisler and Frank Turek.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • What do you stand for in your life?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
