Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "sustain."
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
Lots of people reach their goals. Not a lot of people sustain their goals. That’s because when we are chasing a goal—or anything new—there is a sense of excitement and a sense of newness. When the newness or novelty wears off, we often move on. Think of kids and toys. Or husbands and wives. Ouch.
Focusing on sustainment requires a level of commitment that only comes after a certain degree of maturation. And that maturation comes from experience, which, unfortunately, often comes from failure. However, we do not have to go through the “experience of failure” to sustain the gain.
Instead, we can instead embrace the experience of others who have already experienced failure-to-sustain-an-important-goal experiences AND pushed through to a sustained level of performance—personally, professionally, or spiritually.
Finding mentor(s) who have already walked down the path ahead of us is one of the best ways to avoid painful missteps. While it will not guarantee an avoidance of failure, it will likely minimize the likelihood of failure AND decrease the magnitude of failure if it occurs. Both good things!
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Who can help you sustain the gains you have made?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
About MMM: Each week I publish “Monday Morning Motivation” in the hopes that at least one person will find a bit of inspiration and that this inspiration will have a positive impact on their life. My motivation comes from experiences, reading, sermons, and discussions.
