Monday Morning Motivation – Flow

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day. Today we discuss "flow."

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Flow

The flow of water. The flow of the basketball game. The flow of the music. The flow of thoughts. The flow of life.

" . . . things happening smoothly and without resistance as some greater purpose is accomplished . . ."

When I think of flow, the mental image that comes to mind is of things happening smoothly and without resistance as some greater purpose is accomplished. Unfortunately, for me at least, life does not always flow. (Read: It doesn’t go smoothly, there’s a TON of resistance, and sometimes I wonder what I’m doing!)

The flow state

The good new is that most all of us have been in a “flow state” at one time or another in our lives. A state where things are “clicking.” For some, this just happens. However, for most, it happens when you have a clear vision of the desired state, and you put in a ton of work.

Flow is the payoff

Flow is the payoff. It is rarely easy—but it is almost always worth it! The key is two-fold:

  • Know where you are going.
  • Put in the work to continually focus on getting to that place.

Remain focused, slowly improve

As you put in the work while remaining focused on the goal, you slowly improve in your competence, and the actions required for proficiency gradually become less forced and more automatic. If you persist, things eventually become natural and easy. They flow.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • What do you need to do to make things flow better in your life?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
