Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially
Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.
Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week. Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.
When most people hear the word “instinct,” their mind goes to an unsophisticated animal that lacks intellect and relies on hardwired programming to act. Newsflash—humans have instincts, and they are far from unsophisticated or lacking in intellect.
We all have wirings that evolved over time. Doubt that? How about if you toss a large spider into the middle of a room? Or a snake? Or how about a growling dog? Each of these situations are likely going to trigger primal responses in most humans—responses that heighten our awareness and put our focus on survival.
The challenge is that today’s environment is MUCH different than the environment of yesteryear. As such, the instincts that served us well in the past may not serve us nearly as well in today’s world.
In my mind, what is important is that we each recognize those areas in our lives where our personal wiring has us inclined to act in predictable manners in stressful situations. We need to recognize that those responses are NOT always useful, and we need to fight through the instincts. Is this easy? Absolutely not! Is it necessary and possible? Absolutely.
That brings us to this week’s question:
- Are you aware of where your instincts may be steering you wrong?
Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning.
Have a great week!
