Monday Morning Motivation – Half

Sharing Resources to Help You Grow Personally, Professionally & Financially

Sometimes it helps to get a little dose of encouragement—along with a good cup of coffee!—to start the day.

Hopefully the message below will help you get off to a good start for the week.  Please feel free to forward the newsletter on to others that you think would benefit from the content.

Half

You all know the question—Is the glass half full or half empty? But, have you REALLY taken the time to reflect on the meaning behind this question?

When we speak about our perception of things being “half full” or “half empty,” we are really speaking about our outlook on life. The “half empty” mentality is one of scarcity. One that focuses on the problems. It is what is referred to as a “fixed mindset.” (See Carol Dweck’s book on mindset for a great study on this topic!) The “half full” mentality is one of abundance. One that focuses on solutions. It is what is referred to as a “growth mindset.”

It is rare to find an individual that is 100% “half empty” or 100% “half full.” However, we each do gravitate towards one of these mentalities. Our challenge is to step outside ourselves and see our actions to identify which state we live in more commonly. IMPORTANT – RE-READ THESE LAST TWO SENTENCES!!!

Done? Great. Now are you thinking about where you stand on the “half full” or “half empty” mindset? If so, I would argue that you are in a “half full” mindset at this exact moment as you are reflecting on where you could be. On the other hand, if you are NOT reflecting on the topic, you may want to think about the potential implication.

That brings us to this week’s question:

  • Are you a half-full or a half-empty individual?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with me this Monday morning

Have a great week!

Curt
